The surgeon you select should have an intimate knowledge of skin tissues and understand how to mold your body to achieve your goals. But beyond these important medical considerations, you want a plastic surgeon that educates you about cosmetic surgery choices and develops an individualized treatment plan to best fit your cosmetic goals.
With the proliferation of smartphones, there seems to be an app for everything, including plastic surgery. On NBC's daytime show The Doctors this week, the physician panel demonstrated a new iPhone app that can be used to show Cleveland cosmetic surgery patients how they would look after various plastic surgery procedures. Of course it's a gimmick and no substitute for a conversation with a board-certified Cleveland plastic surgeon, but, as the doctors pointed out, it can be a useful tool in helping people to visualize what they will actually look like after a cosmetic surgery procedure.
Using downloaded photos of the patient, doctors use a stylus to re-sculpt the individual's face or body shape. Of course, the app isn't limited to doctors; and Cleveland women and men can use the app to visually "try on" a new nose, chin lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck or other cosmetic surgery enhancement. On The Doctors, the panel had a little fun reshaping each other's noses and chin lines to comedic effect, but the ability to instantly see changes in a person's appearance showcased the potential use of the app as a visual aid during actual exam room discussions between Cleveland plastic surgeons and their patients.
As with any one-size-fits-all computer application or program, it's important to remember that people and their bodies are not the same. What can be easily accomplished with the stroke of a stylus on a LED screen is not always advisable in real life. While this app, and similar computer simulation programs, can be a starting point for conversations with a Cleveland plastic surgeon; there is no substitute for the specialized knowledge and well-honed experience of a board certified plastic surgeon. In discussing your appearance goals, an experienced cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your individual face and body structure, the condition of your skin and muscles and your personal health history to develop a cosmetic surgery program that will meet your expectations – and there's no app for that!
