Is Cleveland Cosmetic Surgery No Longer Taboo?
Not so long ago, discussing cosmetic surgery was taboo. Cleveland women and men who underwent plastic surgery simply didn’t talk about it. People who underwent a cosmetic surgery procedure often traveled to another town for their surgery to keep from becoming the subject of local gossip mills. You might return from an extended “vacation” looking absolutely fabulous, and your friends might suspect that your new look was achieved with a little surgical help, but it was never openly discussed.
That was then and this is now, but the findings of a new survey conducted by CosmeticSurgeryBible.com indicate that our comfort level in disclosing cosmetic surgery procedures has not changed as much as might have been expected. Cosmetic surgery has been out of the closet for some time now and is openly and frequently discussed on websites, blogs, celebrity magazines and television. Studies have shown that elective cosmetic surgery is now accepted by the majority of Americans as permissible and even desirable.
Despite society’s general acceptance of cosmetic surgery, a recent survey shows that the majority of cosmetic surgery patients – 72% of women and 81% of men -- are not merely reluctant to talk about a cosmetic surgery procedure they have undergone but actively hide their cosmetic surgery procedures from friends and family. Just over half of the women surveyed even admitted to hiding non-surgical procedures like Botox Cosmetic from their spouses.
In addition to non-surgical procedures like skin fillers, liposuction was the cosmetic surgery procedure that women and men (34%) most wanted to keep on the down low. Overall, just 22% of the cosmetic surgery patients surveyed said they had shared their experience, but only with friends and family. The majority said that while they might have confided in a close friend or two, they kept their procedure secret from other people.
