Latte or Botox? Where Do You Really Want to Spend Your Money?
Life is full of hard choices. For every “get” there is a “give.” Usually, getting what you want the most is a matter of giving up a few things that, even though you may enjoy them, aren’t as important to you. Since the economy took a nose-dive, that simple truth – give up to get—seems to have gotten lost in the constant ranting about the country’s economic woes. Instead of pouring over our budget to see where we can free up some money to pay for a Botox procedure, we join the knee-jerk chorus with “I can’t afford it.”
The thing is, most of us can afford the Botox procedure we want -- and without too much financial pain. What’s interesting about the current economic climate is that many people have cut back on big ticket items like vacations and new cars, but they haven’t given up their favorite daily treats. Even if you’re taking a staycation this year, you’re probably still stopping at Starbuck’s every morning for a mint-mocha frappuccino ($5) and hitting the deli at lunch for a turkey sandwich and diet cola ($7-$10). And periodically, you’re probably still going out to dinner ($15-$30 per person), catching a movie ($9-$10 each), going out for drinks with your friends ($10-$30), etc.
There are always ways to save a few bucks so you can have the things that are truly important to you.
Give up just one cup of designer coffee a day for 2 to 3 months and you’ll save $400, more than enough for a Botox treatment. Brown bag it and you can cut that time in half. Eat in for a month and wait for the latest blockbuster to hit pay-on-demand and you’ll be able to schedule your Botox treatment for next month! It’s all a matter of priorities. If you want to look great, you’ll give up that double latte and spend your money on looking and feeling your best!
