What Questions Should You Ask Your Cleveland Cosmetic Surgeon?

Cleveland Cosmetic Surgeon CredentialsAs we’ve noted in recent posts, there are more Cleveland cosmetic surgery options available today than ever before. But as we’ve also noted, some of the people and businesses offering cosmetic surgery procedures have questionable (and sometimes no) medical credentials. Your satisfaction with the results of your cosmetic surgery is dependent on the training, skill and experience of your Cleveland plastic surgeon.

Knowing what questions to ask when you interview cosmetic surgery providers can ensure that you choose a competent, board-certified cosmetic surgeon who has the skill and experience to produce the successful results you desire.

Make certain you talk to the physician who will perform your cosmetic surgery procedure and ask the following questions:

  • Are you board certified? What organization issued your certification? In what specialty are you board-certified?
Your surgeon should be board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. There are other medical groups that offer certification, but the ABPS is the only group authorized to issue board certification in plastic and cosmetic surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties, the official body of the American Medical Association (AMA) charged with setting standards for the various areas of medical specialization. As there are many medical specialties, make certain your cosmetic surgeon is board certified in cosmetic and plastic surgery.
  • How many times have you performed this specific surgery? Over what period of time? How recently?
Obviously, you want a Cleveland cosmetic surgeon who regularly performs the specific surgery you are requesting. A busy plastic surgeon may perform dozens of surgeries in a month; but if most of them are liposuction and you want a face lift, you may not get the results you want. Choose a surgeon who is an expert in the specific procedure you plan to undergo.
