What to Expect After Your Smartlipo Procedure

Smartlipo’s use of state-of-the-art laser technology has revolutionized Cleveland cosmetic surgery. Less invasive than traditional liposuction techniques, Smartlipo provides superior body sculpting results while decreasing the patient’s risk of bruising and greatly reducing recovery time. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities within a day or two of their procedure.
In our past two posts, we’ve walked you through how to prepare for your Smartlipo procedure and what to expect on the day of your procedure. Today, we’ll discuss what to expect after your Cleveland Smartlipo procedure.
Smartlipo is generally performed under a local anesthetic, allowing you to be relaxed and pain-free but awake during your procedure. When your procedure is complete, you will be able to walk into the recovery room where you will rest for a short time under the supervision of Dr. Poblete’s caring staff. (If you are combining Smartlipo with a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck, a longer stay in the recovery area will be necessary.) While in the recovery room, you will be given post-operative instructions and, if necessary, a prescription for pain medication before you are discharged to go home.
When you return home, a day or two of rest and light activity is advised. Pain medication can be taken as directed and as needed. Most patients experience only mild discomfort that lasts for just a few days. Massage of the treated area is recommended after your return home. You will return to Dr. Poblete’s office the day after your surgery for a post-operative follow-up visit.
Studies conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have found that patients who eat a healthy diet and engage in regular exercise enjoy the greatest long-term results from Smart Lipo.
