Breast Procedures

Women may decide to undergo plastic surgery to enlarge or reduce their breasts, to achieve a balance in size or shape for their breasts, or to reconstruct one or both breasts after mastectomy. Men may also seek to reduce breast size. Whatever the motivation, breast surgery is safer and easier now than ever before. Please review the list of services we provide to help you make an informed decision and achieve the most satisfying results.

Dr. Poblete is the only physician in the area who offers patients pain pumps post-operatively; this decreases the use of narcotics and makes the recovery much easier. We also offer our patients a choice of implant shape or style; saline or silicone (Natrelle™ or MemoryGel™).

Breast Augmentation / Breast Enlargement

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enhancement surgery or breast implant surgery, is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the U.S. (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery statistics, 2006). It can give women with small or unevenly-sized breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of implants in the breast. Women may elect to undergo breast augmentation for many different medical and aesthetic motivations, including balancing breast size and compensating for reduced breast mass or the appearance of sagging breasts after pregnancy or surgery. The procedure may be combined with others such as a breast lift for more satisfying results.

Implants are silicone shells filled with either saline (salt water) or silicone gel (recently approved by the FDA). They are placed behind each breast, underneath either breast tissue or the chest wall muscle. The procedure lasts approximately two and a half hours and is typically performed with general anesthesia. After surgery the patient’s bustline may be increased by one or more cup sizes.

Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to return youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, loss of the skin’s natural elasticity or simply the effects of aging and gravity. The procedure can also reduce areolar size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and it can be combined with breast augmentation for added breast firmness, breast volume and breast projection. A breast lift is done under general anesthesia, and lasts approximately three hours.

Breast Reduction

Large breasts can cause pain, improper posture, rashes, breathing problems, skeletal deformities, and low self-esteem. Breast reduction surgery is usually done to provide relief from these symptoms. Performed under general anesthesia, the four- to five-hour procedure removes fat and glandular tissue and tightens skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a healthier proportion to the rest of the body. This procedure may or may not be covered by your health insurance. We have found that among our patients this procedure has a high satisfaction rating post-operatively.

Breast Reconstruction after Cancer Surgery

Breast reconstruction restores a natural, symmetrical appearance to the bosom, maintains body proportion, allows clothes to fit better, and most important of all, boosts self-confidence for women who have lost one or both breasts to mastectomy or who lack breasts due to a congenital or developmental abnormality. Reconstructive surgeons strive to create a new breast and nipple that resemble the woman's natural breast as closely as possible in shape, size and position.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases.  The optimal surgical intervention for treatment is the use of LipoSelection™ by Vaser®.  LipoSelection™ can be used alone or in combination with direct excision of skin; this is determined by the amount of skin laxity the patient presents.
