As a result of the aging process - both intrinsic aging and sun-induced skin aging- face and neck skin becomes looser with a leathery feel. This will result in sagging facial skin, deepening of the laugh lines (nasolabial folds), jowl formation, and loose hanging skin in the neck, on occasion, formation of neck bands or 'wattle' as some may refer to it.
Facelift surgery is designed to tighten the facial and neck skin, and has evolved from simple skin pulling and removal of excess skin, to a more involved tightening of the deeper layers of the face.
Muscle tightening and liposuction of the neck and jowls may also be performed. The incision usually extends from the front of the ear to the area behind the ear and the posterior hairline area. A variant is the 'mini-facelift' wherein there is less movement of tissue and recovery is shorter, usually 3 - 5 days or a weekend.
Since everyone is different, the specific facelift procedure that you need will be reviewed during the consultation visit.
